
| Jibon Bator Logori releasing on Oct 2 The much awaited Assamese film Jibon Bator Logori, directed by Timothi Das Hanse, is going to be released on October 2 at five cinema halls in Guwahati, to be followed by different halls in the State. The film is made under the banner of Hills Motion Pictures Association, produced by Phukan Konwar, Purnananda Gogoi and Beauty Baruah. Besides directing, Hanse has written the story and screenplay of the romantic social film, replete with music, dances and, of course, a message to the society. Music plays a major part in the film, and it has been scored by Biman Barua, Arup Dutta and Timothi Das Hanse, who has also penned the lyrics, along with Barua. The songs are playbacked by Zubeen Garg, Alka Yagnik and Subasana Dutta. The audio album of the songs has already drawn acclaim among music lovers. Sibanan Barua has handled the camera. The film prints have also been made with subtitles in English by Chandan Sarma. Due to paucity of cinema halls, arrangements have been made to take the film to the wider audience through mobile units. A galaxy of Assamese film stars will be seen in action in the film. They include Nipon Goswami, Malaya Goswami, Kapil Bora, Bishnu Khargharia, Arun Nath, Hiranya Deka, Beauty Baruah, Parineeta (Mumbai), Suchandra Chandra (Kolkata), Raag Oinitam, Biki, Shyamantika Sarma, Asha Bordoloi, Kishore Choudhury, among others, along with guest artistes Dinesh Das and Ananya Pasani. Meanwhile, on the occasion of Assam Day, organised by United Assam Association, a day-long programme was held at the auditorium of Brooklands Hotel, Barnsley, London. The highlight of the programme was the screening of Jibon Bator Logori, which was highly acclaimed by NRI Assamese and a number of British viewers. The film was screened with DVD and English subtitles, and it is named Live Alone. Nripen Barkaktaki, general secretary of the UAAUK, remarks: “It was a pleasant surprise for the non-resident Assamese people to watch a nice movie with a good theme. Acting and photography are of high standard. The audience also appreciated the message to the younger generation.” Incidentally, the print of the film has been sent to New Delhi for selection to the Indian Panorama of the 40th International Film Festival to be held in Goa from November 23 to December 3. |
| School of Drama in 18th year It was September 5, 1992. On that Teacher’s Day, an institute to impart training in acting was set up at Anuradha Cinema campus, Guwahati. The institute was named School of Drama, Assam. This is the only institute of its kind recognised by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam. The school was set up at the initiative of reputed actor-director Munna Ahmed and a few other like-minded persons from the field. The institute has stepped into its eighteenth year. The institute is run under the banner of Ankan, with experienced and expert personalities of various streams. It may be mentioned that a good number of artistes of Assamese cinema, stage, TV serials and radio plays are products of the institute. On the occasion, a function with musical items was arranged on September 5 last in the presence of old and new students, compered by Dipak Roy. Abul Ahmed read out a short report on the achievements of the school over the last 17 years. Birinchi Bhattacharya, poet and actor, and others addressed the gathering. Incidentally, the school has been presenting remarkable plays every year with success. The lecturers in the institute include Nipon Goswami, Abha Hazarika, Sambhu Gupta, Moinul Haque, Anup Hazarika, Pakiza Begum, Jyoti Narayan Nath, Himangshu Prasad Das, Bhagawat Pritam, Achyut Bishaya, Nesimul Mazid, Tahidur Rehman, Manas Adhikari, Arup Chakravarty, Bhupen Chakravarty and others. The guest lecturers are Adil Hussain and Parag Sarma. |
| Krishna Goswami’s albums Two audio cassettes and two videos named Bhajan Tarpan and Hey Ma Durga respectively were recently released at a function held at Vivekananda Kendra, Guwahati. The singer is Krishna Goswami and the albums have been released under the banner of Auditek. The albums feature songs in Hindi and Sanskrit. The video Hey Ma Durga was released by Jitu of the Jitu-Tapan duo, while the audio edition was released by Prabhat Sarma. Krishna Goswami has rendered the songs flawlessly under the expert supervision of music director Bhupen Uzir. The lyrics and tunes of all the songs are praiseworthy. |
