DREAMGIRLS they were indeed, who simply set the stage on fire on September 7 night. The event was the grand finale of Fairever Dreamgirl 2008 beauty pageant, an event produced and managed by Mega Entertainment in association with Rajbari Nattraj Troupe & Purnima Handicraft, and powered and styled by designer Abhijit Singha.

As the clock struck seven in the evening on Sunday, the ambience inside the Pragjyoti ITA cultural centre at Machkhowa, Guwahati turned electric as 32 beauties, who came from across the northeastern region, walked onto the stage to the swinging beats and rhythms created by the DJ. Clad in denim jeans and white tops in round one, and then again in flowing evening gowns in round two, they looked stunning under the colourful strobe lights. They were then shortlisted to ten by the judges who included India’s acclaimed fashion designer Hemant Trivedi. The other judges in the panel were Deepa Neog, Assam Police Wives Association, Th Poornima Devi, president of the Mega Miss North East Organization, and Moksh Chopra, brand manager of KevinKare, the title sponsor to the event. It is pertinent here to mention the mission of the FMCG major — to give a credible platform for women to reach their desired horizons.

After a question-answer round that tested the ten finalists’ presence of mind as well as intellect the three winners were announced. Shyashree Saikia of Jorhat walked away with the coveted title while Delphinio Marbaniang of Shillong was the first runner-up. Irani Gogoi of Guwahati was adjudged the second runnerup.

There were also two special titles up for grabs — ‘Fairever Choice of the Region’, won by Delphinio and ‘Fairever Beautiful Skin’, won by Irani. The three winners of the maiden Fairever Dreamgirl 2008 will now be the brand ambassadors of the Fairever beauty cream from the Northeast, while Delphinio will take part in the ‘Gladrags Mega Model 2009’ in Mumbai.

The event anchored by Avik Mazumdar was punctuated with several variety items that included dance numbers as well as song sequences. The wardrobe for this

event was specially created by inhouse designer Y Deepika Devi while the participants were groomed in personality development by Sky Academy. The ramp

walk was coordinated by upcoming model Priyanka to the choreography of Abhijit Singha.
