Anti-migrant procession in GU campus

 GUWAHATI, Sept 24 – A large procession was brought out in the Gauhati University campus today to demand implementation of the Assam Accord and updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) of 1951.

 The programme was organized by the University unit of the All Assam Students’ Union. Apart from the students, a few teachers, members of the employees’ union of the University and students of the schools in the university campus gathered at the main gate and the procession proceeded to the main traffic point at Jalukbari before returning to the starting point.

The processionists also displayed banners and placards and raised slogans in support of their demands. This was believed to be one of the biggest processions in the university campus in recent times.

Members of 26 organizations representing various ethnic groups also helped the AASU in organizing the agitation in the university campus.

It may be mentioned here that the AASU and 26 organizations representing ethnic groups have launched a statewide movement for implementation of the Assam Accord and today’s procession was a part of the programme.
