COVID toll rises to 14 in Arunachal

 ITANAGAR, Sept 23 - The COVID-19 death toll in Arunachal Pradesh has risen to 14 with a 60-year-old patient succumbing to the infection on Tuesday.

 “A 60-year-old non-APST (non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe) COVID-19 patient died in the TRIHMS at Naharlagun yesterday. He was referred from Hapoli, Lower Subansiri district, in a serious condition. His body was cremated at Chimpu as per the SOP,” State Surveillance Officer (IDSP) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Meanwhile, the State recorded the highest single-day spike of 249 cases with the Itanagar Capital Complex reporting a record 140 infections, said a bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services here last evening.

With the addition of fresh cases, the State’s caseload has mounted to 7,844. On the other hand, 135 patients were discharged from different hospitals. So far, 5,778 patients have recuperated from the disease. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the State now stands at 2,052, the bulletin added.

Changlang reported 22 cases, Upper Subansiri 21, West Siang nine, East Siang eight, and Lower Subansiri and Anjaw seven cases each. Similarly, six cases were detected in Tawang, five in Lower Siang, four in Upper Siang, three each in Papum Pare and Pakke-Kessang, two each in Lower Dibang Valley, Kurung Kumey, Longding and Leparada, and one each in Namsai, Tirap, Kra-Daadi, Lohit and West Kameng districts.

Of the new cases, 219 are asymptomatic and 30 symptomatic, the bulletin said.
