State Assembly Session from today

 GUWAHATI, Sept 23 - The autumn session of the Assam Legislative Assembly will begin on Monday. The nine day session will conclude on October 5.

Two new bills are likely to be tabled in the House during the session – Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University Bill, 2018 and The Assam Inland Water Transport Re-organization Bill, 2018, according to the notices received from the government departments. The transport department's bill aims at an overhaul of the Inland Water Transport department. Sources said the bill proposes creation of a regulatory body and two corporations - one for river ports and another for shipping.

However, the Assembly secretariat has received two bills from the government till evening today – The Assam Electricity Duty (Amendment) Bill and The Assam Tea Plantations Employees' Welfare Fund (Amendment) Bill.

The election of the Deputy Speaker has been slated for September 26. The post had fallen vacant after resignation of Dilip Kumar Paul, a BJP legislator from Silchar, in May.

Supplementary Demand for Grants and Supplementary Appropriation for the year 2018-19 will be passed on October 4.

Speaker's Initiative has been listed for the concluding day. The subject for this session's Speaker's Initiative is problems faced by the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

The opposition is likely to rake up issues concerning the NRC, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and jehadi activities in the State during the session.
