Erosion in Koroini Nepali Basti area renders many people homeless

 TEZPUR, Sept 20 - After the flood fury, massive erosion caused by the Jia-Bharali river in Koroiani-Nepali Basti area under Barghat police outpost in Tezpur LAC has rendered many families homeless. Due to massive erosion in the area, over 50 families have taken shelter in safer places as the Jia-Bharali has already eroded their homes and hearths. However, the victims of the flood and erosion alleged that till now, nobody either from the Water Resources department or the district administration or the local representatives have visited the areas. On the other hand, the Mansiri river has eroded a huge chunk of area in Rangapara LAC, rendering many poor families homeless.

 Two important roads including the Boithabhanga-Amonigaon Road have been severely affected by erosion. It needs mention here that the people of Boithabhanga, Gudamghat Miri, Pachmile, Gudamghat-Kachari, Gudamghat TE, Meat Supply area have been using these roads as a major means of communication.

The erosion has also posed a serious threat to the Khonamukh-Boithabhanga Road. People of these areas have alleged that the Water Resource department is quite reluctant to solve their problems. However, sensing more threats that may be posed by the river, local people have taken certain measures themselves to protect their areas.
