|Modi to be chief guest at IITG convocation|
GUWAHATI, Sept 20 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the 22nd convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG), to be held online on September 22.
“The IIT Guwahati will host its 22nd convocation virtually on Tuesday, September 22, with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi addressing the students as the chief guest,” said a statement issued by the institute.
All the participants at the event will be attending it from their respective homes or offices across India. The Prime Minister will address the convocation from New Delhi.
The convocation will begin at noon and people will be able to watch it live using Facebook and YouTube.
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and Union Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre will be the guests of honour in the virtual event. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be the special guest.
Dr Rajiv I Modi, Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Guwahati, and Prof TG Sitharam, Director of IITG, will also address the event.
To celebrate the accomplishments of the IIT Guwahati’s graduates, the institute has created a virtual reality-based award distribution where one can experience an avatar of the recipient of the award collecting a medal from the Director’s avatar surrogating him, from the comfort of their homes. The institute has also created a photo-booth, with an option of different backgrounds, for students to take pictures at some selected locations on the campus.
The IIT Guwahati’s faculty and students have developed a telepresence module for a virtual visit to the institute, added the statement.
