Pathetic condition of Rupkonwar Path. – AT
GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - The condition of Rupkonwar Path in Birubari area has been in a deplorable condition for quite some time even after the State government agencies identified the road as vulnerable to waterlogging. The road is replete with potholes making it unsuitable for commuters and vehicular movement. The road was identified as one of the areas of the city vulnerable to waterlogging at a joint survey conducted by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Public Works Department, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and NF Railway among others, in June this year. Altogether 39 areas of the city are vulnerable to waterlogging.

The residents of Rupkonwar Path have expressed great resentment at the dilapidated condition of the road. “Poor road condition and waterlogging have been there for many years. Even a light shower floods up the road. Several complaints were filed with the authorities concerned for repairing the road, but no step has been taken yet. No repair work has been carried out here for many years,” a resident of the area said.

“We urge the authorities to take urgent measures to repair the road. Waterlogging occurs due to lack of a proper concrete drainage system here,” the resident added.
