Tamal Kusum Das dead

 GUWAHATI, Sept 19 – Tamal Kusum Das, a pioneer of the Scouts and Guides movement in the State, and wife of veteran sports organiser Pulin Das, passed away at her residence here late last night. She was 89.

A recipient of the President’s Medal for Scouts and Guides, Das represented India at the Scouts and Guides meet in the USA in 1953. She was also a sports organiser and social activist, and was the founder president of the Assam Women Cricket Association. She was also the State’s first woman sports pension holder.

Das was a teacher in the TC Girls’ HS School. A leading lady of the locality, Das was actively associated with various socio-cultural and sports organisations over a long period of time.

She leaves behind her husband and three sons, including actor Jayanta Das, besides a host of relatives. Her last rites were performed at the Nabagraha crematorium today.
