Manipur filmstar Seema no more

 IMPHAL, Sept 19 – Manipur’s popular film actor Seema passed away after a prolonged illness in a private hospital in Imphal on Saturday. Also known as Huirem Ningol Laimayum Ongbi Seema, 37, she passed away at 2 pm at the Shija Hospital here.

She had been under medication at the hospital after she was shifted from Sky hospital here on September 6 last. Film Forum Manipur (FFM), an apex body of Manipur film world observed a two-minute silence besides offering floral tribute to the departed soul at their office complex at Lamphelpat.

A procession was also taken out from FFM office to here Khoyathong residence prior to the traditional rituals and subsequent funeral rites. She is survived by her popular film maker husband Laimayum Surjakanta and three children.

She started her film career at a tender age of five years. She also acted in a few plays of leading theatre group Rupmahal Theatre and teleplays for Doordarshan before she stepped into Manipur’s film world. She won a number of awards including for best actress for films – Kanaga Hinghouni (1999), Nongju Ahing (2007).

Seema had acted in fifteen 35 mm feature films, one non-feature film and more than a hundred digital Manipuri films.
