FCI rout MP team to enter football final

 MORIGAON, Sept 18 – Guwahati Sports Association’s Super Division team Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club cruised into the final of the 43rd Motiram Bora Football Championship with a 3-1 goal victory against Madhya Pradesh United Club.

In the first semifinal, played at the Khirod Baruah Stadium here today, the Guwahati boys were leading 1-0 at the break and at the end of regulation time the scoreline remained 1-1. But in the added time, FCI fired two salvos to seal the fate of the match in their favour. Abhijit Duwarah gave FCI an early lead in the 17th minute. However, the team from Madhya Pradesh drew parity in the 48th minute through Piyush Khelo.

After completing 90 minutes, the match was locked 1-1. But, like the previous match, the FCI boys showed tremendous courage in added time. Biswamitra Basumatary netted two goals in the 92nd and 97th minutes and took his team to the all-important final. In the second semifinal tomorrow, Mohun Bagan Academy of Kolkata will play against Green Valley Sports Club of Guwahati.
