Bhagagiri Raichoudhury dead

 GUWAHATI, Sept 16 - Bhagagiri Raichoudhury, son of Asom Keshari Ambikagiri Raichoudhury and former teacher of B Borooah College, breathed his last at his Silpukhuri residence today. He was 87 and is survived by a son and a daughter. He was a well-known poet, writer and columnist. His works as a writer included collections of poems like Mon, Mati, Megh; Rodor Rupali Rekha; Ayusmati, etc., children’s novel Moron Vijoyi along with other books. He was also writing his autobiography Mor Jibonar Urmimala but the work remained incomplete.

 At a very early age Raichoudhury completed a translation work titled Sonali Pera using the pen name Subha Rai in collaboration with his elder sister Suchibrata Raichoudhury. This book was the first publication of Atmabikash Bhawan, a publication house established by Ambikagiri Raichoudhury.

Raichoudhury was closely associated with Asom Sewak Pratisthan, Asom Yuvak Samaj, Ambikagiri Samaj Mandali, Yuva Nivas Sanstha, Ambikagiri Smarak Nyas, etc. He had also played a vital role during the Assam Agitation.

He was cremated at the Navagraha crematorium this evening. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has condoled the demise of Raichoudhury.
