AIZAWL, Sept 16 - Hundreds of students on Saturday staged a protest rally here under the aegis of Joint Students’ Union representing nine lump-sum grant in aid higher secondary schools demanding ad hoc status. The protest rally was held between Chanmari and Vanapa Hall.
The students blamed the Congress-led Mizoram Government for paying a deaf ear to their demands and asked it to step down.
The students have been demanding the State Government to upgrade nine higher secondary schools in Aizawl district, Mamit district, Serchhip district, Champhai district and Lunglei district to ad hoc status.
A student leader said that the schools were run by the villages out of public contributions for more than 14 years, and alleged that it is difficult to run the schools with a meagre grant from the State Government.
