Tributes paid to poet, journalist Gokul Sarma

 DOOMDOOMA, Sept 15 - Rich tributes were paid to the memory of veteran journalist, former president of Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association (TDJA), journalist pensioner and renowned poet Gokul Sarma on the day of his adyashraddha on Monday at his residence at No.1 Makum Pathar in Margherita.

 Under the aegis of TDJA and in collaboration with various organisations of Margherita, the reminiscing meet began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and offering floral tributes before the portrait of Gokul Sarma by his wife Anjali Sarma.

The meeting was chaired by the HoD of Assamese Department of Margherita College Dr Ramen Hazarika. Addressing the gathering, senior journalist and former president of TDJA Amulya Khataniar, Tinsukia District Poets’ Association president Dr Ranjit Dutta, poet Santanu Sarkar, TDJA president Dr Rishi Das, Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha president Arjun Baruah, late Sarma’s son Monimugdha Sarma and several others spoke on various aspects of Gokul Sarma’s life and works.

The memorial book titled Dihingporia Kabi Gokul Sarma – Byakti Aru Byaktitwa under the editorship of Dr Runjun Saikia and Lakhyadhar Sonowal was formally released in the meeting by Dr Ranjit Dutta and Dr Rishi Das.

A cheque of Rs 80,000 from TDJA was handed over to Anjali Sarma, wife of Gokul Sarma. The entire programme was anchored by TDJA secretary Ranajyoti Neog.
