|Mizoram Health Secy tests positive|
AIZAWL, Sept 15 - Mizoram Health Secretary H Lalengmawia is among 40 people who have lately tested positive for novel coronavirus, an official release stated. The release added that 40 people, including 14 females, tested positive from among 1,306 samples tested during the last 24 hours. This has taken the State’s virus count to 1,468.
Of the 40 fresh cases, 35 were reported from Aizawl district, two from Hnahthial district and one each from Lunglei, Khawzawl and Lawngtlai districts.
Twenty-three cases were reported to have been locally transmitted, while the source of infection of a 10-year-old girl in Aizawl is yet to be ascertained.
The remaining 16 patients have travel history and were put under institutional quarantine since their arrival in the State.
The 40 new patients also include a Border Security Force personnel from Lunglei district, while the rest 39 people are civilians, the source said.
Majority of the new patients are asymptomatic, while a patient from Lawngtlai district has been referred to the Zoram Medical College Hospital as he has diabetes, the source added.
Meanwhile, doctors said that Health Secretary Lalengmawia is asymptomatic and has no health issues.
The number of active cases in Mizoram now stands at 549. A total of 919 people have already recovered from the disease.
According to the Health Department, 51,316 samples have been tested till Monday. In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases and shortage of medical facilities, the Mizoram Government is mulling to allow home isolation of asymptomatic patients.
The matter was discussed at a meeting of officials, church leaders and NGO representatives chaired by Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana on Monday.
An official said the meeting agreed to conduct a thorough study on the feasibility of home isolation for asymptomatic patients and accordingly, make a proposal in this regard, which will be reconsidered in the next round of meetings.
