Plastic-free mission launched in Udalguri

 UDALGURI, Sept 14 - The Udalguri Municipal Board launched its mission against single-use harmful polythene and plastic bags in Udalguri town from today.

This was a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call to make India a plastic-free nation. Thus, responding to the appeal of the Prime Minister, along with other parts of the country, the Udalguri Municipal Board too launched the plastic-free Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) which will continue upto October 2.

Meanwhile, two schools of Udalguri town area, namely Udalguri Girls’ HS School and Ramswaroop Agarwalla Memorial English School declared their institutions as plastic and polythene-free zones since September 1 last.

On the other hand, the Udalguri district committee of Aranya Suraksha Samiti of Asom, a nature organisation in a press release issued by its secretary R Sapkota appealed to all the producers of plastic and polythene bags to convert their production of single-use polythene and plastic bags into eco- friendly paper and cloth bags for the betterment of the society and bright future of our present and future generations.
