Lakhimpur admin issues flood alert
Correspondent
NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Sept 14 - The Lakhimpur district administration has issued a high alert following release of water by NEEPCO’s Ranganadi dam at Yazali in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.

The release of the dam water and incessant rain left Ranganadi and its tributaries in spate in Lakhimpur district today.

About 20 villages under Nowboicha revenue circle have been inundated by the floodwaters of the Ranganadi. The Pahumora High School near NH-15 is also under water since Thursday night. Water levels of the Dikrong and the Singra are also rising due to heavy rain in the district.

The Lakhimpur district administration has asked people not to venture out for boating, fishing and swimming in the rivers.

Meanwhile, railway tracks suffered damage due to heavy rain in Kekuri in Dhemaji district, leading to disruption in railway services between North Lakhimpur and Murkongselek.
