Tussle over Dima Hasao Autonomous Council poll
Correspondent
HAFLONG, Sept 14 – GC Langthasa, MLA, 16 Haflong (ST) has requested the State Minister of Hill Area Development, not to issue notification for the election before the expiry of the present council term while the executive committee of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council led by Debojeet Thaosen expressed its keen desire to get the council elections conducted within its due time, before the expiry of its present term.

The present term of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council will expire during December next.

In his letter to the State Minister of Hill Area Development, Langthasa said, ‘Let the present term expired and then the Council election may be called, say in the 1st week of March or 1st week of April 2013 for the greater interest of the people of Dima Hasao in general and in particular for the Congress party’.

Langthasa alleged that the extremist groups were still supporting the present Council headed by Debojeet Thaosen who was originally from ASDC/BJP/AGP party. The ASDC/BJP/AGP party jointly defeated the Congress (I) with the support of the extremist groups during the last election.
