Garo militant killed in encounter, arms recovered

 TURA, Sept 14 – A senior Garo militant leader of the banned GNLA was killed in an encounter with SWAT commandos and CoBRA unit of CRPF in Durama Hills jungles in Garo Hills on Friday morning. A good number of weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site.

The killed militant has been identified as Mikjim aliasTusol Sangma. He was killed inside the main camp of Sohan D Shira during the lengthy gun battle that was launched by the police commandos before 12 noon today.

The militants gave a strong resistance by continuing to open fire from bunkers and well-fortified sentry posts on the outskirts of the camp.

Police managed to recover some weapons from the camp and the body of Tusol T Sangma who is said to be the area commander of West Khasi Hills district. One HK rifle with magazine, two AK magazine, two grenades, two pistols and six wireless sets have been recovered from the camp area.
