Agartala, Sept 15 (IANS): Militant leader Bipul Debbarma, blamed for the abduction of six employees of a construction firm in Mizoram in March, on Saturday surrendered to security forces with his wife, officials said.The Bangladesh-trained leader of the separatist National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) gave himself up to the Border Security Force (BSF) with an AK rifle and electronic devises.
"He confessed he was involved in many violent activities in Tripura and Mizoram since 2003," BSF spokesman BS Rawat told reporters.
A manager and five supervisors of the company were kidnapped by heavily armed militants March 26 from their work shed at Bunghmum in Lunglei district in southwestern Mizoram, 200 km south of Aizawl.
Before the abduction, the militants looted Rs 2 lakh from the hostages who were residents of Assam, Punjab and Rajasthan. After about two months the guerrillas released the captives.
Rawat said: "BSF has made sincere efforts to motivate misguided tribal youths who joined militant groups to join the mainstream of life."
