|‘Resolve woes of women’s varsity’|
GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - While hailing the appointment of noted scholar Dr Malinee Goswami as Vice Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, the state unit of Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has urged the government to resolve the problems afflicting the varsity.
In a statement today, the SFI unit described Assam Women’s University as an outcome of the arduous struggle of the State’s people. But, among its teachers, 31 are holding ad-hoc posts, 22 are holding contractual posts, while over 10 are guest teachers.
The university has no academic council, its library is also in a very poor state and its third grade and fourth-grade employees are also appointed as temporary ones. The State government should take urgent steps to appoint permanent teachers and other employees in the institution in adequate numbers, the SFI said. Moreover, the varsity is yet to secure UGC approval under 12B, it rued.
