AGARTALA, Sept 13 - Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has laid emphasis on setting up of small scale rubber-based manufacturing units in the State instead of going for a big one or two industries.
And there must be efforts to provide proper marketing linkage to the rubber growers and small entrepreneurs to sell their products without facing any hardship, he said while speaking at a meeting on rubber cultivation and its prospect in the Civil Secretariat here.
Chairman of Rubber Board D Sundaram, Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan, Addl Chief Secretary Dr GSG Ayyanger and Director of Industries and Commerce Dr Sandeep Rathod were present in the meeting on Wednesday.
“There is a need to improve capacity building of rubber tappers to get best possible harvesting. Besides, the line departments must encourage setting up technology based smoke houses”, he said.
The Rubber Board Chairman said it is working for the greater benefit of the rubber growers by imparting training, and extending technical and scientific supports.
Dr Rathod gave a brief note on rubber production and its future in the State. “The State produced 65,330 MT of raw rubber in 2017-18”, he said.
