New app for emergency situations
Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - A Mumbai-based software developer has come up with an app to help people deal with emergencies concerning medical treatment, police and fire.Named Help App, the application can be downloaded on android phones and used to access ambulances, hospitals and fire services to meet emergency situations in a fast, convenient and hassle-free manner.

Subhash Khanwilkar, the app developer who was in the city to connect the hospitals, police stations and fire stations to Help App, told The Assam Tribune that his objective is to cover the entire country through the app, enabling the masses to access timely response from the authorities in emergency situations.

“It is a free service aimed at public good. Till now we have had the phone numbers like 100, 108, etc., for emergency services, but these procedures sometimes run into problems, resulting in delay and communication gap between the caller and the service provider during emergency situations. The Help App is much more user-friendly and reliable,” he said, adding that the app would be extremely helpful in facilitating prompt medical response for accidents on highways.

The app sends details of the caller including location to the service provider, making the response swift. The caller is also in a position to see the details of the service provider. There is a provision for sending text messages on offline mode too.

Khanwilkar, who has the invention patented, said that he has already added most of the hospitals of Guwahati to the app. “The hospitals have been quite cooperative. I intend to have the ambulance services, police stations and fire stations added soon. I also need the Government’s help and cooperation to streamline the services,” he added.

The app has already been used across several States. “I want the whole of the NE to be covered by the app,” Khanwilkar said.
