Agricultural info centre set up at Darrang village

 MANGALDAI, Sept 12 - The students of Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programme (RAWEP) of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) at Jorhat has set up an Agricultural Information Centre (AIC) on the premises of Krishok Jyoti Sangha at Dahi-Dhuwapara village under the guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Darrang.

The students prepared various models on integrated farming system, roof top gardening, solar irrigation, drip irrigation, water harvesting, etc. In this connection, an inauguration programme was organised on Wednesday in which Gurujyoti Das, Mangaldai legislator, took part as the chief guest and inaugurated the new information centre.

In his address, he expressed his satisfaction for organising such an important event in a remote village of Darrang district. He requested the farmers present on the occasion to extract the best out of the programme for improving the cultivation practices by adopting low cost models. He also congratulated the students of AAU for their creative activities.

Participating in the function, Dr Kaushik Das, professor at the Department of Crop Physiology, AAU, stressed the importance of RAWEP for the students.

Earlier, MK Chauhan, senior scientist and head, KVK, Darrang, explained the importance of the AIC. The meeting presided over by Tanu Ram Deka, retired head teacher of Dahi Middle English School, ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Muzaharul Islam, programme supervisor of RAWEP.

Altogether 19 models and approximately 90 charts/flexes were displayed in the AIC unit on various agricultural and allied technologies. The function also featured a direct interaction programme.
