Anti-social activities on the rise in Kokrajhar town

 KOKRAJHAR, Sept 12 - The rise in anti-social activities in Kokrajhar town has become a matter of serious concern these days.

Some of such activities include vandalism in girls’ hostels, eve-teasing, gambling in the form of teer khela, holding mela and other types of gambling without permission, reckless driving of vehicles, including motorbikes and E-rickshaws, rampant violation of traffic rules and illegal parking of vehicles, drugs peddling, among others. According to sources, in some posh areas of Kokrajhar town, anti-social elements have made obscene images of young women and girls from hostels and residences, viral on the Internet.

At the same time, the menace of drug peddling is also going out of control in the town. Many young students have already fallen into the trap of drug peddlers. The problem of eve-teasing or other forms obscene acts targeting young girls is also increasing in the town allegedly under the nose of the authorities concerned.

Further, illegal parking of vehicles avoiding traffic rules and signals has become a common practice in the town. Several fatal accidents and deaths were recently reported from different parts of the town due to reckless driving.

The menace of gambling has destroyed the lives of many youths of the town and gambling is getting popular day by day. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Kokrajhar district administration today organised an emergent meeting to halt such illegal activities in the town.

The meeting chaired by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Partha Pratim Majumder was held in the Kokrajhar Science College auditorium. Tabu Ram Pegu, Additional SP, Kokrajhar along with Kokrajhar DTO and other top district officials, representatives of both political and non-political organisations, members of NGOs and student bodies and leading citizens also took part in the meeting. In the meeting, the district administration resolved to take stringent measures against the perpetrators of such anti-social activities.
