Scientists undertake survey of small tea growers
Correspondent
DIBRUGARH, Sept 11 – Scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra located at Lahoal, some 15 km from here, have taken up a survey of small tea growers of the district for academic and research purposes.

The survey work has been taken up jointly by Krishi Vigyan Kendra and the small tea grower’s body of the district. The basic objective of the survey is to ascertain the actual number of small tea growers, average productivity of green tea leaves and other income generative agro-allied resources.

The Kendra has distributed the survey schedule to all the regional committees of the small tea growers’ body of the district. However, the survey is not taking off as expected. The Kendra held discussions with the regional committee members of the Lahoal unit of the small tea growers on Thursday to determine various strategies to speed up the survey. The programme coordinator of KVK, Dibrugarh, Dr HK Bhattacharya and other KVK scientists attended the meeting. Dr Bhattacharya highlighted the significance of the survey and asked everyone to come forward for timely completion of the survey.

Following the inputs from small tea growers, Krishi Vigyan Kendra has now decided to organise meetings at every regional office of the small tea growers to ensure more people’s participation by involving different groups of people like self-help groups, NGOs, progressive farmers and tea growers to dispel the doubts of small tea growers.
