Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Sept 11 – The KMSS today staged a sit-in demonstration here calling for a halt to work on the Lower Subansiri hydel project and also in protest against the handing over of Assam’s land to Bangladesh as part of a bilateral treaty.

The demonstration which started at Dighalipukhuripar at 10 am continued till 1 pm, eliciting participation of over 500 protesters, a KMSS release said. The protesters shouted slogans against mega dams and the land transfer treaty with Bangladesh.

The KMSS warned of a more intense agitation unless the Centre rescinded its grandiose plans of harnessing the water resources of the North-east while subjecting the people to untold misery in the process.
