GUWAHATI, Sept 9 – Capitalising on a disorganised Dynamo Club defence, Navajyoti Club pumped in three goals in their crucial GSA Super Division League match at the Nehru Stadium here today.
Leading 1-0 at the breather, Navajyoti netted two more in the second session in the match which was marred by some untoward situations in the later part.
With today’s victory, Navajyoti raised their points tally to 14 with one match to go. On the other hand, Dynamo have 16 points from equal number of matches in the champions group.
NF Railway Sports Association is at the top with 18 points and they have two matches to play. Sunrise Athletic Club is at the bottom in this group with 10 points and they have also two matches to go.
Today, Dynamo should blame themeless for the debacle. Their strikers – Prasenjit Das, Kartik Koi and Lalthangliana – missed some easy scoring opportunities when they were trailing 0-1.
Had Prasenjit and Kartik not squandered the chances they got mid way through the second session, the complexion of the match could have changed.
Navajyoti drew first blood in the 23rd minute through Rocky Philem who bulged the net after getting the ball from a rebound off the upright. Ifeanyi Nkenchor’s shot hit the post and unmarked Rocky took a first timer after receiving the ball (1-0).
After changing over, Dynamo put ample pressure at the Navajyoti goal area and created several openings. But some brilliant saves by goalkeeper and some ill-directed shots by Dynamo strikers, kept them away from equalising the issue.
In the later stage of the match, Dynamo defenders became frustrated and went helping their attackers. Navajyoti frontliners took the opportunities and netted two more goals.
Ifeanyi set the ball for Rocky from the left flank and the latter gently lobbed the ball into the net over advancing Dynamo goalkeeper Mantu Mallick in the 73rd minute (2-0). Before that Mantu rescued his team on a couple of occasions in point blank situations.
Just after two minutes, Ifeanyi again initiated a move through the middle and found Rocky in a free zone. Rocky unleashed an angular grounder and finally it was Dhruba Ranjan Chetia who diverted the ball into the open net (3-0).
