FCI rally to hold ASEB
Sports reporter
GUWAHATI, Sept 7 – It was an exciting second session and all the four goals were scored in that half of the GSA Super Division League match between ASEB and FCI.

Coming from behind on two occasions, spirited FCI managed to hold ASEB 2-2 at the Nehru Stadium here today.

The first session was a lacklustre episode. Hardly any positive moves were initiated in the first session as both the teams were concentrating more on tightening their defence.

But after changing over, the complexion of the match took a dramatic turn and the momentum increased.

Substitute Sanjoy Boro immediately after entering into the ground took ASEB ahead in the 53rd minute. Receiving the ball off a flag kick, unmarked Sanjoy, drove home beautifully (1-0).

FCI midfielder Birdwm Basumatary levelled the issue in the 60th minute with a sharp header. Anticipating a floater from Kailash Gogoi Birdwm beat the ASEB custodian with an angular heading (1-1).

ASEB again went ahead in the 78th minute when Syed Ansar beat FCI goalkeeper Gobinda Boro from a difficult angle. Sanjoy set the ball for Syed who unleashed a shot which surprised all the FCI defence and the goal keeper (2-1).

ASEB was ready to celebrate victory but Birdwm spoilt their party scoring in the 87th minute. It was an eye catching goal as Birdwm kept his temperament and beat ASEB custodian at the far post. David Gayary initiated the move from top of the box. Getting the ball from David, Kailash Gogoi took a shot and the ball deflected off a FCI defender. Finally, Birdwm got the ball and shot for the equaliser (2-2).

With today’s drawn match, FCI and ASEB have collected 11 and 10 points respectively with one match to go. Gauhati Town Club (7) and Assam Police Blues (6) are behind them in the relegation group.
