Gai breaches new guide bund
AJIT PATOWARY
DHEMAJI, Sept 7 The Gai river breached the new guide bund built on its left bank by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) around 8 am today and washed away the subway built by the BRO to keep surface communication intact between Silpathar-Jonai areas of the district and the rest of the State. This has also disrupted the road link between Passighat in Arunachal Pradesh and the rest of the country.

The Gai river washed away its left bank guide bund built by the Railways on August 15 last, along with a portion of the NH-52 at Gai Nadi area. Following this, the BRO built the guide bund and laid the subway to restore the road link between Silapathar-Jonai and the rest of the State on September 2.

Work to restore the road link between the Silapathar-Jonai and the rest of the State is on.

Meanwhile, the Dhemaji district administration today distributed the cheques of Rs 90,000 to the next of kin of each of those killed in the August 15 flood. The district administration earlier distributed Rs 10,000 to each of these families.
