Staff Correspondent
SHILLONG, Sept 6 - The Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) today concluded its week-long observance of the National Nutrition Week with an awareness programme held at its campus here.

The awareness programme was organised by the Nutrition and Dietetic Cell of the Department of Allied Health Sciences, MLCU, on the theme, ‘Nutrition awareness: a key to healthy nation’, with the objective to create mass awareness about healthy eating, especially among adolescents and teenagers.

LS Wallang, Demonstration Officer, Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women and Child Development, said educating ourselves about the various developments in the food industry with regard to processed food, genetically modified organisms and pesticides used is essential.

She added that the public should make informed food choices. “One should be aware of food facts and not be swayed by persuasive advertising,” she said, stressing the importance of developing good food habits and changing those habits in accordance with growth and change in the body.

Wallang also inaugurated a model exhibition and an ‘innovative diet exhibition’ which showcased food models and types of nutritious food. The alumni of the department set up a diet clinic, which gave consultations to students and faculty members regarding daily diets.
