HPC seeks bamboo from Tripura, Manipur
Spl Correspondent
NEW DELHI, Sept 4 – The Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPC) has moved the State Governments of Tripura and Manipur for sustainable supply of rawmaterial for its Cachar Paper Mill and has made arrangement to import bamboo from Bangladesh by road.

Listing out measures undertaken to resolve its financial crisis, Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Praful Patel in reply to a question by Kumar Deepak Das said concerted efforts are being made to liquidate the finished goods inventory and improve the sales performance, besides improving the order book position.

The Minister further said that stand alone schemes under modernisation and technological up grade Plan have been undertaken for modernisation of Nagaon and Cachar Paper Mills. However, plans have missed the targeted date of completion.

The project being brownfield in nature involved integration with existing system and balance of plants leading to delay and re-tendering process. Fibre shortage also forced the company to slow down plans, the Minister added.

Meanwhile, the Public Enterprise Selection Board has rejected the plea for extension of services of the CMD of the Mill. The PSEB was requested to initiate process afresh for filing up the post of CMD, HPC on a regular basis.
