ASAK commander’s wife arrested
 TURA, Oct 29 - Acting on a tip off, police arrested Fernia Evans N Sangma (Boti), wife of ASAK commander-in-chief Reding T Sangma, from Mindikgre in South Garo Hills district on Thursday.

She was yesterday sent to three day police custody by the Court after police produced recoveries suggesting that Fernia may have been involved with the group.

“We received information that an amount of Rs 2,30,000 had been sent by Reding to his wife for the purpose of recruiting new cadres to be sent to Bangladesh to procure arms. When we searched the house, an amount of Rs 2,30,000 was recovered from the house along with quite a few incriminating documents,” said South Garo Hills police chief, Anand Mishra.

Police sources said that Bangladeshi SIM cards along with mobile phone handsets as well as a satellite phone charger were also recovered.

Meanwhile, the spate of surrenders continued today with five more militants belonging to Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) today surrendering to the police in Williamnagar in East Garo Hills.

The surrendered cadres deposited one pistol along with 24 rounds of ammunition.
