MLA team visits Bangla border in Karimganj|
BADARPUR, Oct 28 - A ten-MLA delegation of the State Assembly, led by Additional Chief Secretary VB Pyarelal and Additional DGP, AP Rout, along with Karimganj DC PK Mahanta and SP, Karimganj PR Kar and Karimganj DIPRO, H Haque inspected several border areas of the Karimganj district, on Sunday.
The MLAs in the team were Rabindra Narzari, Naren Sonowal, Dr Numal Momin, Bir Bhadra Hagjer, Mihir Kanti Shom, Rajdeep Gowala, Jamal Uddin Ahmed, Gunindra Nath, Kripanath Mallah and Anowar Uddin Laskar, inspected the Putni, Dumabari, Lathitila, Teshua, Champabari border areas and interacted with the local people and the security officials to know about their problems and to understand the overall situation of the border areas. The team also inspected all the BOP’s and took stock of various issues – including border fencing, infiltration, smuggling along the border, antisocial activities and the untoward incidents taking place in those areas.
Taking to ANN Service, the MLAs said, “Our main purpose of inspection of the Indo-Bangla international border areaswas to take stock of the situation in the district. We would submit a report to the State Government, after assessing the issues related to infiltration, although the overall situation of the border areas, at present, is normal and peaceful”. They also stated “the border issue is of the utmost priority to the State and if the borders of Assam are sealed permanently, then many co-related issues in the State will be resolved.”
The team inspected the sensitive Champabari area, where they were astonished to see the ‘fully open’ corridor (182 km long), along with free movement of the border people, which was alleged by BSF officials and personnel before the team. Seeing this strange situation, the team strictly instructed the BSF personnel to keep a strict vigil on the situation, and take immediate necessary action. They also assured the BSF personnel that they will bring this sensitive matter to the notice of the Government.
However, reliable sources said that the MLA delegation showed their dissatisfaction towards the condition of the border areas. They have viewed that the borders in the area are insecure and need immediate attention.
