 JORHAT, Oct 26 - Jorhat Police arrested five youths on charges of committing dacoity at the Jorhat bypass on late Thursday night.

A police source said that the five youths reportedly stopped an oil tanker at the Bypass Road and physically assaulted the driver and his assistant and allegedly looted money (about Rs 1000) from the duo.

The source said one among the arrested youths is a son of a serving police officer (DSP) posted in lower Assam.

When police was informed, a police team rushed to spot and carried out a search in the area and apprehended the five men, the source said. Police today produced the arrested persons before a judicial court here that sent them to judicial custody.

The arrested youths are: Sisir Das, Prasujya Bora, Sanjay Dutta, Manoj Bora (all from Jorhat) and Sunmoni Gogoi (originally from Sivasagar, now residing in Jorhat).
