Seminar on business and management at GU

 GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - A two-day national seminar on business-technology interface titled ‘Changing dynamics in Business and Management: Technological Intervention and Environmental Responsiveness’ was organised by the Department of Commerce, Gauhati University (GU) on October 22 and 23, said a release today.

GU Vice Chancellor Prof PJ Handique inaugurated the event at the Phanidhar Dutta Hall, GU. Prof Aparajeeta Barkakoty, Head of the Department of Commerce and Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, gave the welcome address.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof ML Singla, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi. He highlighted the challenges faced and advancement made by the global economy due to technological innovations.

Dr Mukulesh Barua, Director, Assam Institute of Management, spoke as an invited speaker on the technological intervention in modern-day human resource management of an organisation. Prof Nayan Barua, former head and dean of the Faculty of Commerce, GU, presided over the inaugural function.

A total of 167 participants from across the NE region presented their research works on various topics at the 10 technical sessions of the two-day event, in which a panel discussion was held on the trade-off between economic development and environmental sustainability. The discussion was moderated by Prof Bhaskar Jyoti Bora, a former Head and Dean of the Faculty of Commerce.

The panellists included Prof Arup Kumar Sarma from IIT Guwahati, Prof HP Sarma, Rector, GU, Ankuran Pathak from the Pollution Control Board, Assam, and Prof AP Singh from GU.

On the second day, detailed discussions were held on environmental pollution and degradation as a result of industrialisation and also on the measures to be adopted by the corporate houses to mitigate such pollution. Prof Tapas Kumar Giri, IIM Shillong, and Prof Parimal Chandra Bhattacharjee also took part in the discussions.

In the valedictory function, Prof Debadas Bharali, a former head and Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, GU, who is regarded as a doyen of commerce education in Assam, delivered the valedictory speech.
