JORHAT, Oct 25 – The Bhupendra Sangeet competition that was earlier scheduled to be held in Majuli on October 6 has now been postponed to November 7 and 8 because of the floods that occurred in the month of September, stated in a press release issued by Sanmilita Shilpi Samaj, a leading socio-cultural organization of Majuli which is organizing the competition in collaboration with Asom Sanskritik Mahasabha, Majuli district committee.
The competition will be held under two sections. The lower section of the competition will be conducted among the participants from Majuli, in which candidates under 14 years of age can choose any song composed by Dr Bhupen Hazarika for rendition.
The competition in the upper section will be held at all-Assam level on certain selected songs of the maestro and will be open for candidates above 14 years of age.
The competition will be attended by such artistes as Manisha Hazarika and Pankaj Bordoloi. The open meeting and prize distribution ceremony, to be held on November 8 under the chairmanship of Dr Anil Saikia, renowned researcher of folk music, will be graced by Kalpana Lajmi, long-time companion of Dr Hazarika.
Prize money of more than Rs 50,000 will be distributed among the top position holders under both the sections. A souvenir to be published of the occasion will also be released in the meeting.
The intending competitors may collect the application forms from Titivate, Kamalabari Chariali, Majuli and from Borah Service (near Jorhat Central College, Kenduguri) on or before October 31, the release added.
