Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, Oct 24 – The All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association is going to organize the 13th North East Book Fair from December 14 at the Chandmari engineering field here. The focal theme of the 13-day fair will be Burhi Aair Sadhu, the much loved folk tales of Assam, collected and presented in lucid style by the illustrious son of the soil Lakshminath Bezboruah.

Addressing media persons here, the organizers said that they decided on the focal theme of the fair as this was the centenary year of Burhi Aair Sadhu.

It needs to be mentioned here that the association in collaboration with National Book Trust will celebrate the centenary year of Burhi Aair Sadhu with a two-day programme at the book fair venue.

“This special programme will be open for people of all age group and background because Burhi Aair Sadhu has captured the hearts of all people in the State,” said the organizers.

National Book Trust is also collaborating with the association to hold book fairs in rural Assam.

On the other hand, adviser to the association Giripada Dev Choudhury said that the book fair will set apart a day for senior citizens, women, children and poets to share and exchange their views. “There will also be a day dedicated to satire. We think this programme will attract a lot of people,” said Choudhury adding that a souvenir would also be released by the organizers.

A blood donation camp is also going to be held at the fair.

Choudhury further said that compared to last year, the number of participants from outside the State would be greater this year. However the publishers and book sellers from outside the State are yet to confirm their participation.

A few renowned personalities who have contributed towards the betterment of the society would be felicitated on the occasion. Noted writers from outside the State have been invited by the organizers to interact with the readers here.
