Correspondent IMPHAL, Oct 21 - Manipur’s ‘green ambassador’ nine-year-old Valentina Elangbam has been honoured with Outlook’s Speak Out Awards along with nine other women achievers at a colourful ceremony held in Delhi.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani handed over the award to the young Manipuri girl, acknowledging the contribution made by the ambassador.
Valentina, a Class 5 student of Amutombi Divine Life English School, was seen crying inconsolably in a video that went viral on social media, after trees were cut down on August 3 in her area. She was later named as the brand ambassador for the Chief Minister’s Green Manipur Mission on August 7, 2019.
“Many people took photographs when Valentina walked up to receive the award in her traditional attire with the headdress Kajenglei,” said Valentina’s father Premkumar, who accompanied his daughter along with a relative for the award ceremony.
They returned home in Hiyanglam Makha Leikai in Kakching district on Sunday with a memento and a letter from an automobile company to get a scooter from any outlet in India.
