Traffic regulations in view of President’s visit
 GUWAHATI, Oct 20 – In view of President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit, the Guwahati traffic police has put certain restrictions on the movement of vehicles in and around Guwahati that would come into effect from 11 am onwards on October 22.

The entire stretch of the road from LGBI Airport via National Highway-37 and the PWD road via Garal, DG Road (Jalukbari to Bharalumukh), MG Road (Bharalumukh to Raj Bhawan), AT Road (from Gadhulibazar to Bharalumukh), KLB Road, GNB Road, Dr B Barooah Road shall be no parking zones. Movement of heavy and medium goods-carrying vehicles would also be regulated on the above roads.

City buses moving from Panbazar towards Dispur, Khanapara via GS Road, and Paltanbazar shall be regulated at the Cotton Collegiate School point and diverted via HB Road, ARB Road, GNB Road and Panbazar Road overbridge.

Seeking cooperation of the common people on the day, the traffic police has requested all vehicles users to avoid GNB Road from 3 pm to 5 pm on October 22.

Slow-moving vehicles would not be allowed to move through DG Road, MG Road, KLB Road, GNB Road, Dr B Barooah Road and GS Road.

Diversions and restrictions would cover all inter-district, long-distance and rural service buses, including the buses operating under ASTC – except the city buses – shall not be allowed to ply on DG Road, MG Road, AT Road, AK Azad Road, AK Deb Road and GNB Road on the day.

No goods-carrying and heavy passenger vehicles would be allowed on Dr B Barooah Road and GNB Road. All such vehicles, including the commercial ones coming from Dispur and Sarabbhati side would be regulated at Ulubari and diverted via GS Road towards Paltanbazar.

All heavy vehicles, including city buses coming from the Dispur, Paltanbazar side towards Garpandu shall be diverted via AT Road and shall not be allowed to take right turn and move via Panbazar Road overbridge and MLN Road.

City buses would not be allowed to park in front of Judge’s Field on MG Road. City buses coming from the Chandmari side to Panbazar via GNB Road shall be diverted towards Uzanbazar via Guwahati Club.

City buses coming from the Panbazar side towards the Chandmari side will be diverted towards Chandmari via Uzanbazar and Guwahati Club. All vehicles coming from the Ulubari side via Dr B Barooah Road shall be diverted at TC point towards Uzanbazar via CK Agarwala Road, Lamb Road or MC Road.

Traffic arrangements outside Guwahati city include restriction on all heavy commercial vehicles coming towards Guwahati through different National Highways for at least three hours before the arrival of the VVIP at 10 am. These vehicles would be restricted at Khetri, Sonapur, Byrnihat, Jorabat, Khanapara, Rangiya, Baihata, Changsari, Boko and Chaygaon.

All other vehicles like light vehicles, city buses and other long-distance buses would be regulated in time before and during the journey of the VVIP from the respective venues.

“The step has been taken to ensure safety of the general public and to ensure smooth flow of vehicles, particularly the emergency vehicles like ambulance, fire-tenders etc,” a statement from Traffic SP Bibekananda Das mentioned.
