JORHAT, Oct 19 - The convenor committee of Jorhat district unit of Asam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) – a newly-formed political party of the State – was constituted in a public meeting held here on Monday.

The 100-member convenor committee of Jorhat district unit of the party was formed in the meeting held under presidentship of Niren Sharma, a former AGP leader, at the Jorhat district Muktijujaru Bhawan here.

Speaking to newspersons, State Coordinator of AJP Adip Phukan informed that the 100-member Jorhat district convenor committee comprised 12 chief convenors and rest 88 as convenors. He stated that Niren Sharma was made the Jorhat district coordinator of the party.

Phukan said that the district convenor committee was entrusted the task of forming convenors’ committees in all the five Assembly constituencies spread over Jorhat district. The constituencies are: Jorhat, Mariani, Titabar, Teok and Dergaon.

The AJP State Coordinator informed that after constituting the convenor committees of the party in the five Assembly seat areas, the regional committees will be formed thereafter across the constituencies. He added that subsequently a full-fledged district level committee will be formed by December 20 this year.

Phukan said that in 2021 Assembly polls, the party is set to form the Government. He said that the AJP will try to regain the five seats of Jorhat district in view of the fact that Jorhat was a strong citadel of regional power. He sought people’s support and cooperation in this regard.

“We will join hands with all tribes and communities, Misings, Dimasas, Karbis and all others who put regional aspirations of the people in top of the agenda and are working in the field to that effect,” Phukan observed.

Replying to a query, he further said that the seat-sharing with regional forces would be considered constituency-wise and equidistance will be kept from BJP and Congress-AIUDF alliance.
