GUWAHATI, Oct 19 – The draft photo electoral rolls for Assam were published by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, State Election Department, today.
With this, Assam is on course to witness for the first time the use of photo electoral rolls in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The final photo electoral rolls would be published on January 23 next year, Joint CEO, Assam, KJ Hilaly told The Assam Tribune.
“Voters can lodge their claims and objections over the draft rolls with the polling offices concerned within a period of one month from October 19 to November 19. The process of disposal of claims and objections will be completed by December 19, and the final rolls would be published on January 23, 2013,” Hilaly said.
As of now, a voter has to show his/her identity card to the presiding officers while casting their votes but once the photo electoral rolls are finalized, the voter may not need to exhibit his/her identity card, as the presiding officers will have photo electoral rolls with them to check out the identities of the voters.
