Science complex planned at Dhemaji

 DHEMAJI, Oct 17 - The Dhemaji branch of Assam Science Society (ASS) is planning to establish a science complex at Dhemaji with construction of a science centre, a planetarium, a science museum and several other science assets like science activity corner, labs of computers, biology, agriculture, electronics, etc.

 A public meeting was organised in this connection at the Children’s Educational & Career Development Centre (CECDC) of Dhemaji College on October 13.

The meeting which was attended by more than 600 science teachers, heads of the educational institutions in Dhemaji district was chaired by Phatik Doley, Inspector of Schools, Dhemaji District Circle and the purpose of the meeting was explained by Labanya Lahan Chutia, president, Assam Science Society, Dhemaji branch.

She stated in her speech how the Dhemaji branch of Assam Science Society is estimating the plan for establishment of a big project of the Science Complex at Dhemaji. In this context, she thanked Dr Dhananjay Ghanwat, Superintendent of Police, Dhemaji, who is also a life-member of Assam Science Society for adopting the prime role in planning the proposed science complex at Dhemaji.

Speaking in the meeting, Dr Buddhindra Boruah, former Principal of Dhemaji College, reminisced he birth of the Assam Science Society’s Dhemaji branch at Dhemaji College on September 23 in 1979 and expressed his pleasure at the planning made by the science body to establish a science complex at Dhemaji.

He also asked all the people of Dhemaji to extend full cooperation to the fulfilment of the science complex.

Addressing the public meeting, Dr Dhananjay Ghanwat, Police Superintendent of Dhemaji district, who is also a life-member of Assam Science Society, laid importance in developing scientific mentality among all the people. “A society can’t be developed without science and technology,” he said.

Dr Ghanwat also suggested the attendee teachers in the meeting to inspire the students to science and scientific innovation. In this reference, he mentioned the name of noted innovator Uddhav Bharali as an example.
