Plans to make Sivasagar a tourist destination discussed
ANN Service
SIVASAGAR, Oct 15 - The Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, Dr MS Laksmipriya today convened a meeting of the leading citizens and media personnel to thrash out an inclusive and viable plan to make the district a major tourist destination in the tourism map of India involving all.

She called upon the citizens first to help the district administration and Sivasagar Municipality Board in keeping the mandir township clean to make it attractive for the tourists. Secondly, she called upon the tour operators and vehicle providers to make it affordable and friendly for the tourists to tour around the 551 Ahom Era monuments scattered in the district. The Deputy Commissioner asked the district officials to provide all logistic support and engage themselves in resource mapping so that a project can be developed within a short period of time and pursued in right earnest.

The citizens suggested that the plan should be developed on a priority basis and be implemented in a time-bound manner. When it comes to cleaning of the town, the Sivasagar Municipality Board should adopt a well thought-out garbage management plan rather than depending on NGOs support. They also urged the new Deputy Commissioner to widen the roads as far as possible to accommodate more car parking slots and easing traffic snarls.
