SILCHAR, Oct 15 - Slamming the Congress party for it’s anti-people approach, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday reiterated that the Government is committed to secure and protect the rights of the people of the State and assured that the development spree will remain unabated.

Addressing a public meeting at Nivia to campaign for party candidate Bijoy Malakar and woo voters of Ratabari constituency in Karimganj district ahead of the byelection on October 21, the Chief Minister said, “the Government is well and truly responsible to protect the rights of the people. In the past seven decades, Congress has not been able to bring any remarkable development other than increased levels of corruption. However, since BJP took over, there has been constant and comprehensive development in all spheres. Road stretch from Silchar to Ramkrishnanagar and from Bhanga to Achimganj shall be improved and the rail link with Mizoram is only a matter of time.”

Further, Sonowal narrated the efforts of the BJP government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the State Government in bringing smiles on to the faces of the people and elevating the status of the country at the global stage.

The Chief Minister visited Anandapur Gain Panchayat area under Karimganj district as a part of his campaign for the byelection. Having done an aerial recce of Son Beel, the wetland, Sonowal said that the place is potentially rich to be the tourist hub in the region and committed that he would ask the concerned authorities to set up tourist lodges and facilitate heliports for people to visit from far off locations.
