|GoAir starts air service between Guwahati, Aizawl|
AIZAWL, Oct 15 - The first Airbus 320 of low-cost airline GoAir took off from the Lengpui Airport here to Guwahati today. Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga flagged off the daily air service between Aizawl and Guwahati, the first flight between the two North East State capitals since Jet Airways grounded its flights on February 10 this year.
The Chief Minister underlined the importance of the air service between Aizawl and Guwahati, especially for ailing people. He said the public faced hardships during the suspension of flights between Aizawl and Guwahati. He added that the flight service would be of great help to the public, and expressed the hope that other airlines, too, would operate flights from the Lengpui airport soon.
Also speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, Regional Executive Director of AAI, Sanjeev Jindal, attributed the resumption of air service between Aizawl and Guwahati to the efforts of Chief Minister Zoramthanga. He said the air service between Guwahati and Aizawl was aimed at catering to public needs, rather than making profits.
GoAir vice president Harjinder Singh Bhasin, who was also present on the occasion, thanked the Mizoram Government for taking the initiative of starting the air service, and expressed the hope that it would help boost the tourism industry in the State.
The GoAir flight from Guwahati will depart at 6.50 am and arrive in Aizawl at 7.50 am. The return flight will depart from Aizawl at 8.40 am and arrive in Guwahati at 9.50 am.
