GUWAHATI, Oct 15 - The 119th birthday of Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah will be celebrated on October 17 by the RG Baruah Smriti Rakhya Committee.
Floral tributes will be paid to the architect of modern Assam near his bronze statue at Dighalipukhuripar at 7.30 am on October 17. Apart from garlanding of the statue, a memorial meet will also be held on the occasion.
On the same day, a public meeting will be held at the Kanaklal Baruah Auditorium on the premises of the Assam State Museum to recall the life and works of RG Baruah. The programme, to be presided over by senior journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakravartty, will be attended by Professor Abani Kumar Bhagawati as the chief guest. He will deliberate on the topic ‘Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruahr saponar adharat suwanikoi Guwahati nirman: kisu chinta’.
At the same programme, literary and cultural activist Devi Prasad Bagrodia, singer Dwipen Barua and sports organiser Nagendra Nath Barman will be felicitated for contributions to society in their respective fields.
