57,000 doubtful documents for NRC detected

 SILCHAR, Oct 14 - Cachar district has registered an impressive run rate of 4,290 documents verified in the past 25 days for the month of September.

Out of the 10,21,500 documents which were sent for office verification a total of 5,91,600 documents were verified till September 27 registering 57.93 per cent of performance which is next to Barpeta and Nagaon. But the issue which has been a cause of concern for the officials of the district NRC cell is the piling number of doubtful documents obtained from the applications.

According to sources here, 57,000 documents have been detected as “NO” documents so far. Sources said that the ‘NO’ documents have been classified in two categories viz., forged papers and records not available (RNA). “A major chunk of the ‘NO’ documents have been tampered birth certificates, ration cards, postal passbooks etc. The documents will be sent for re-verification.

Moreover, it is also learnt that five cases each at Katigorah and Udharbond regarding tampered birth certificates, have been registered, sources said.
