Bongaigaon admin tough on fireworks rule
BONGAIGAON, Oct 14 - Considering the general safety of the town and to avoid risk of fire incidents, the administration will keep an eye on the selling of fireworks in the district during the celebration of Deepawali, said Sanjeev Sharma, ADC, Bongaigaon.

Already two local traders of Bongaigaon town have applied in the Deputy Commissioner’s office for obtaining license to sell fireworks during the festival of lights.

As per the Explosive Rules, 2008 under Explosive Act, 1884, it is mandatory for the license seekers to follow safety norms in storing and selling of fireworks.

The safety rules do not allow any licensee to store more than 5000 kgs of fireworks in any accommodation in residential areas. For it a licensee has to arrange separate accommodation at a place away from inhabited areas.

The guideline also prohibits the selling of China-made fireworks in the country. Also the licensee is allowed to sell sound emitting crackers, having sound limit below 125 decibels.

The traders who store and sell fireworks throughout the year, have to take license from Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation (PESO), the guideline says.

A drive against China-made fireworks and other lighting materials would be launched soon in the town, Sharma said.
