Lakshmi Puja celebrations today

 GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - The State will invoke the goddess of wealth and prosperity Goddess Lakshmi tomorrow with all traditional fanfare. Preparations are on in full swing to worship the Goddess and on the eve of Lakshmi Puja today, the capital city witnessed heavy rush at the markets as devotees purchased fruits and flowers and other paraphernalia for worshipping the Goddess.

Many of the Durga Puja celebration committees in the city will be observing Lakshmi Puja by adhering to all the rituals necessary for the auspicious occasion.

The temples which are dedicated to the Goddess have been decorated and illuminated as people will make a beeline tomorrow to offer their prayers seeking good fortune.

In many localities in Guwahati, Lakshmi Puja will be celebrate collectively and arrangements are complete for worshipping the Goddess.

As it is believed that the Goddess favours a clean surrounding that symbolizes hard work and dedication, citizens were seen cleaning their residences thoroughly. Individual houses have been decked up with colourful lights for the occasion.

Sale of earthen lamps was high as many prefer to illuminate their residences with earthen lamps. Along with the vendors selling earthen lamps, the flower vendors too had brisk business today.
